Eligibility: Granted to two (2) qualified students each year, at a value of approximately $6,000. Open to Art’s co-op students who are involved with the Laurier and Region of Waterloo communities (unpaid). A written application must be submitted to the Laurier Co-op Office, to the attention of Karen McCargar. Selected candidates will be invited to an interview.
Description: Special Fund; established to provide students with the opportunity to pursue a paid work term with an organization that would otherwise would not be able to employ a student due to lack of finances (museums, orchestras, humanitarian organizations,etc)

Name: Neo Material Technologies Co-op Scholarships of Distinction

Eligibility: Eligible applicants will be full time undergraduate students who are in the final two years of their program of registration, or full time graduate students in the School of Business and Economics. Applicants must be students in good standing in the Laurier Co-op program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 8.0 (B) and have secured a co-op approved work term position with an employer in China. The scholarship will be granted annually to the 2 eligible candidates who present the highest cumulative GPA’s. Recipients are eligible to receive this scholarship once during their program of registration. Students in the Laurier/Waterloo double degree programs must be registered with Laurier as their home institution. Scholarships will be conditional on selected students obtaining a work permit within the stipulated time frame and securing a co-op approved work term position with an employer in China.
Description: Annual, Award of Distinction: Recipients who do not subsequently undertake the co-op opportunity, or who do not complete the full co-op work term, will be required to reimburse the University for some or all of the value of the scholarship.

Name: Scott Paget Memorial Award

Eligibility: Granted to a third or fourth year full time undergraduate Honours BBA student (regular stream or co-op) who demonstrates a strong interest in entrepreneurship identified through such aspects as his/her course selection and extracurricular activities. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 7.0(B-), be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident (landed immigrant) or Protected Person; long-term resident of Ontario; proven financial need
Description: Endowed award; established by fellow Laurier alumni in memory of their friend, Scott Paget. Scott epitomized the word entrepreneur. Scott was involved with Wilfrid Laurier’s Campus recruiting group before starting his own ice cream business after graduation. After Scott developed this business he sold it and started a corporate career and joined Syntex Pharmaceuticals. Syntex became Roche and Scott enjoyed success bringing his entrepreneurial spirit to Roche. After a few years, Scott left and joined a smaller pharmaceutical firm-Byk. Scott was able to bring his talents to bear and was soon assigned to an overseas role based in their headquarters in Germany. It was in Germany on September 11, 2001 that Scott passed away in a terrible car accident. This scholarship has been created to honour Scott’s memory and is meant to continue and encourage entrepreneurial spirit at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Name: Sybase iAnywhere Scholarship

Eligibility: Open to full time undergraduate students who have completed at least one Co-operative Education work term in the hi-tech industry, as confirmed by the Laurier Co-Op Office. The scholarship is also available to full time MBA Co-op students based on the same criteria. Preference will be given to students who have completed a Co-op placement with Sybase iAnywhere. Eligible applicants will have a minimum cumulative GPA of 10.0 (A-) within their current academic program. Student receiving this scholarship will not be eligible to receive another Award of Distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University during the same academic year. Application form requirements: 1. a one page report describing all of the following: (a) the most enjoyable aspect of your experience working in the hi-tech industry; (b) your personal role in hi-tech, challenges that you faced and how you overcame them; (c) any professional and/or personal projects that you completed and are particularly proud of that relate to technology and/or the hi-tech industry 2. an updated resume 3. you may attach up to two (2) letters of reference to your application.
Description: Annual scholarship; established by Sybase iAnywhere to recognize exceptional students at Wilfrid Laurier University who have a keen interest in technology. A scholarship of $5,000.00 will be granted annually at the Laurier Awards of Distinction Ceremony.

Name: The GCAN Insurance Award of Distinction

Eligibility: Full time undergraduate students who will be entering their 4th year of study in the Honours BBA Co-op program in the current academic year who are meeting all the requirements of the Co-op program, and who have completed or are currently placed in a work term position in the insurance field. The recipient will have a minimum cumulative GPA of 10.0 (A-). The submission must include a detailed statement describing their experience of and subsequent interest in the insurance industry. In cases where two or more candidates are considered equal, overall GPA will be the deciding factor. This opportunity requires a distinct application.
Description Annual scholarship; established to encourage and support outstanding BBA students, and, in particular, those in the co-op stream who have had a work term or are currently placed in a work term position with an insurance company.

Name: Manulife Financial Scholars of Distinction

Eligibility: Eligible applicants will be full time undergraduate students in the School of Business & Economics who are in the final two years of their program of registration. Applicants must show good academic achievement (minimum cumulative 9.0 [B+]) and demonstrate a commitment to community service through participation in volunteer work in the local community, in the applicant’s home community (e.g. outside their home province or Canada), or elsewhere. Recipients are only eligible to receive this scholarship once during their program of registration. Students in the Laurier/Waterloo double degree programs must be registered with Laurier as their home institution.
Description: Annual Award of Distinction; awarded annually to five of Laurier’s best and brightest senior students in the School of Business & Economics. These Awards of Distinction will be granted as follows: 1 scholarship: BBA/BMath (Business-Math double degree program offered jointly with the University of Waterloo); these applicants must express an interest in pursuing a career in actuarial science; 2 scholarships: BBA/BCS (Business-Computer Science double degree program offered jointly with University of Waterloo); 1 scholarship: BBA with Accounting Concentration; these applicants must express an interest in pursuing the Chartered Management Accountant designation; 1 scholarship; open to any BBA or Honours Economics student
