Arts Co-op

The Faculty of Arts is an intriguing and balanced mixture of traditional liberal arts departments and innovative interdisciplinary programs. A hallmark of the faculty is its emphasis on both solid disciplinary training and research, while encouraging innovations in interdisciplinary programming and projects.

 Co-op Majors:

Arts Co-op is available to full-time students at the Waterloo campus in all honours majors. Students apply for Arts Co-op in the winter term of their first year.

Students often take the majors below in combination with a second major, such as Cultural Studies, Film Studies, or Women & Gender Studies. Each program on this list is linked either to its departmental web page or to the undergraduate calendar. Please consult the undergraduate calendar for the most current program information.

Student Testimonials:

“My co-op position as a Resources Planning Assistant with the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority helped clarify my goals and interests. While creating a digital representation of each land-use project and mapping each location, I learned how soil moisture, type, elevation and distance from a floodplain or watercourse play key roles in the suitability for land use.”
Alyson Smith, Geography, Class of 2011

“Working as a Marketing Intern for Smucker Foods of Canada exposed me to all facets of the consumer packaged goods industry. I participated in strategic brand development and creative promotions, including TV commercials and recipe booklets. I now plan to pursue a career in marketing, because it combines creativity with business.”
Jenifer Dillon, Arts Co-op, Class of 2010

"Participating in the Co-op Option has played a pivotal role in my career development. I joined a software team at Research In Motion (RIM), where researching and documenting software processes used some of the skills I have developed as a communications studies major. I was proud to work for an innovative company that is known globally, and was able to meet students from all around the world."
Michelle Le Marquand, Arts Co-op, Class of 2008
