Appeal Process and Interview Feedback, Arts & Science Students

Arts Co-op and Science Co-op at Laurier are popular with students and the admission process is competitive for these limited-enrolment programs. We do not have a waiting list.

Admission is based on a three-stage process as outlined in detail on our website. Students who meet the GPA cut-off are interviewed by a co-op co-ordinator.

Selection of students to co-op is based on the criteria stipulated on our website, in the introductory statement, and at co-op information sessions. The department strives to treat all candidates in a fair and consistent manner.

If you have not been offered admission and wish to receive feedback from your interviewers, you will be able to call the Co-op Office at 519.884.0710 ext. 4484 to schedule a meeting.  The deadline for calling to request a meeting in 2011 was noon on October 3, 2011.

After this meeting, if you wish to appeal the decision, you must submit your reasons in writing, along with a completed appeal form, to Karen McCargar, Associate Director of Co-operative Education.   The deadline to submit a written appeal in 2011 was October 21, 2011 at noon.

We are not able to consider appeals which are based on:

  • Information you did not provide or develop fully in the interview
    -OR -
  • Criticism of the current admission process.

We are able to consider appeals if you provide:

  • Evidence that the decision not to admit you was unfair because interviewers didn’t use the advertised criteria (marks, work experience, volunteer and extracurricular activities, and performance in the interview) to make their admission decision.
    - OR -
  • New evidence which was not available at the time of the selection process through no fault of your own; if for example, you successfully petition your marks, or if we receive an assessment from the Accessible Learning showing that your learning disability was not accommodated in class.

Appeal decisions are final.
