Co-op Programs at Laurier’s Waterloo Campus

Undergraduate Arts, Business, Economics and Science students:

Co-op at Laurier is popular with students, and the admission process is competitive for limited-enrolment programs. Review information from an applicant information session to learn more.

  • We will begin accepting applications in March for 2012 admission. The application deadline is Monday of the second week of classes in a student’s second year. (In 2012, the application deadline will be Monday, September 17.)

  • Applicants who meet the grade requirements for 2012 will be invited to an admission interview. (The minimum overall first year GPA was 8.0 for students applying for admission to Business and Economics Co-op in 2011. We set the minimum GPA in July. Students must achieve the overall GPA requirement by the application deadline.)

  • The deadline for eligible students to schedule interviews for admission to Arts Co-op or Science Co-op was September 20, 2011. The deadline for eligible students to schedule interviews for admission to Business and Economics Co-op was September 26, 2011.

  • When making admission decisions, co-op co-ordinators consider applicants’ first-year marks, recent work experience, recent volunteer and extracurricular activities, and performance in an interview.  More information about evaluation criteria.

  • Enrolment is limited; there are always many more applicants interviewed than there are spaces for co-op students. (For example, we receive applications from 500 to 600 Business and Economics students each year.)

  • Undergraduate applicants will learn whether they will be offered admission by Thanksgiving weekend of their second year.

  • We accept students in second year only; you may not apply again in third year.

Double degree students:

Please follow steps 1, 2, and 4 of the steps in applying to enrol online for co-op.

  • Students in Business and Financial Mathematics or Business and Computing at Laurier who are registered in second year as of September are offered automatic entry to co-op, and may enrol online until the second Monday of classes in September.

  • Participation in co-op is compulsory for students in the double degree programs where students take business at Laurier and math or computer science at the University of Waterloo.

Graduate students:

If you have any questions about graduate co-op program, please contact Laurie Lahn.

  • Students apply to the MBA Co-op and Master of Finance Co-op programs through the School of Business and Economics.

  • Students applying to the Master of Arts in Business Economics indicate whether they wish to be considered for the Co-op Option at the time of application.

International students:

Students on study permits may apply to and be admitted into co-op programs at Laurier. Please note, however, that we may limit the number of spaces available to international students.
