Volunteer with the Career Centre - Student Committee Advisors

Are you a student with a disability? Do you want a valuable volunteer experience? If you are looking for an opportunitiy to promote inclusiveness, share ideas and influence program development, apply to be a Committee Advisor for the RBC Career Transition Program for Students with Disabilities.

The Advisory Committee for the RBC Career Transition Program for Students with Disabilities has been created to provide input and direction to the program. The goal is to provide a student-driven advisory committee that represents the needs and interests of Laurier students and alumni. The committee will also include professional members who will provide insights and advice on the program based on their areas of expertise.

Volunteer Job Description:

  • Attend and participate in committee meetings that will normally occur three times per academic year to offer ideas and direction to program development (with opportunities to participate on additional ad hoc committees as required)
  • Represent the Laurier student community and provide a student voice to ensure that the program is responsive to the needs of students with disabilities
  • Promote the program and its goals to the Laurier community
  • Offer feedback and ideas on proposed programming and events for students with disabilities
  • Share new ideas about program development with the committee members both in and outside of regular meetings.

Qualifications Required:

  • Currently working towards a Degree or diploma in any discipline (full or part-time studies)
  • Willing to make a commitment to the role by completing required tasks, attending and actively participating in all committee meetings
  • The desire to take initiative by gathering and sharing information, including engaging other students in discussions, consulting with relevant professionals and bringing ideas and experiences to the discussion
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse group working towards common goals
  • Interest in disability-related issues as they relate to career development. An awareness of the needs of students preparing for the transition from university to work.

Please note:
We are seeking two undergraduate students to join a committee that is presently comprised of four undergraduate students and one graduate student. Committee members are asked to commit at least one year with a possible extension.
