Electronic Resources

Career Cruising - online resource of career information including over 500 career profiles and a comprehensive database to search for further education programs. If you are on-campus at Laurier, you can access Career Cruising by clicking here. If you are off-campus, please contact the Career Centre at 519.884.0710 ext. 4495 or careercentre@wlu.ca for the username and password to use at www.careercruising.com

Career Insider (Vault) - online resource for career information. Access through the library website at www.wlu.ca/library. Click ’Find Articles and More’, click ’Databases by Title (A-Z)’ and then ’C’ - Career Insider (Vault). You need to access this resource from a Laurier computer or through the library’s remote access service.

The BIG Guide to Living and Working Overseas - online resource for students interested in working abroad. www.workingoverseas.com/wlu - create an account with your wlu.ca email address.

Jobs 4 Grads Now - a comprehensive resource that guides you through the process of finding employment using a series of interactive workshops and offers access to meta job search tools.   www.jobs4gradsnow.com/wlu  -please contact the Career Centre for the passcode to access this resource.

Careego - Social networking, expert blogs, discussion forums, meta job search tools and a community of professionals and students altogether in one place to help you with your job and career search needs. To register as a member, log in to Laurier Navigator and click ’Career Resources.’  Please note that Laurier students and alumni do not need to upgrade their membership to access resources including the JobSpyder meta search tool but do need to register.

The Career Resource Centre contains comprehensive career-related information in a variety of media from books to DVDs. You will find information about career options, employer directories, labour market studies, guides for starting your own business, program directories and information to prepare grad school applications as well as resources to prepare resumés and for interviews. We invite you to browse and utilize the resources as you plan for your career.

Log into Navigator to search the extensive Career Resource Library for print and AV resources available in the Career Centre.  Resources can be borrowed overnight with a $10 deposit with the exception of any resources marked "Reference".

The Resource Centre also provides access to the Laurier wireless network and provides a comfortable place to read and prepare job applications. We have 6 computers available for student use.

  • National Occupational Classification files
  • “Major binders” – information about potential careers, education and other career-related information organized by major

  • Labour Market Information
  • Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) – directory of Laurier alumni who have volunteered to provide information regarding their career and/or organization

Employment Preparation

  • Resumés/Cover Letters - sample résumés, keyword ideas
  • Job Search /Networking - tips for conducting an effective job search and accessing the hidden job market
  • Interviews/Negotiation - tips for successful interviews including sample questions and answers as well as salary negotiation resources
  • Career Management - how to succeed in the workplace and how to make a career change
  • Employment Equity - resources for students facing equity-related career issues such as workplace accommodations, employment standards, LGBTTTIQ and multicultural issues

  • Employer directories contain contact information for organizations - divided by type of industry including business, finance, healthcare, social services, media/advertising, science and search firms as well as by type of job (summer, graduating, etc.)
